Secondary Accounts and Proxy Access

(UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

This document will assist in the various ways Outlook and the Outlook Web Access (OWA) web application can connect to mailboxes other than your own.

Proxy Accounts

Opening a Proxy Mailbox in Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Note: If you have access to Proxy mailboxes, they would be displayed automatically in Outlook 2010. These directions only apply to OWA.

  1. Log in to ECON Webmail.
  2. Click on your name in the upper right corner of the window. This will bring down the “Open Other Mailbox” popup.
  3. In the “Open Other Mailbox” box, enter the name or email address of the mailbox that you want to open.
  4. Select the desired mailbox and click Open.
  5. The mailbox will open in a new window.

Secondary Accounts

Adding a Secondary Account to Outlook

Note: This tutorial was created using Outlook 2013, but should be functionally equivalent to Outlook 2010.

  1. Open Outlook, and select the File tab at the top of the main window. This should bring up a window similar to below. Select Add Account. OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount01.gif
  2. Input the information pertaining to the account into the fields provided, and click Next. OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount02.gif
  3. Outlook will now verify the information, and create the account if the information is correct. OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount03.gif
  4. A prompt will appear asking you to restart Outlook. Click OK and restart Outlook. OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount04.gif
  5. Upon restarting Outlook, you may be asked to enter credentials. Check the name of the mail account at the top of the prompt and enter the pertinent information. Note: Be sure to add ECON\ before the username, as this will allow you to successfully pass credential verification from any machine (example: testaccount@econ.umd.edu would have a username of ECON\testaccount).OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount05.gif
  6. Your new account is now set up. It will be added to the navigation pane on the left side of the Outlook main window. OutlookCreateAdditionalAccount06.gif

Sending Mail from a Secondary Account

Note: This tutorial was created using Outlook 2013, but should be functionally equivalent to Outlook 2010.

  1. After adding your secondary account, select New Email from the top ribbon to create a new message. SendingFromSecondaryAccount01.gif
  2. Once in this window, you can select the From field to change which account sends the message. SendingFromSecondaryAccount02.gif
  3. Compose the message and click Send. It will file the message away in the corresponding account's Sent Items folder.

Secondary Profiles

Adding a Secondary Profile to Outlook

Note: This tutorial was created using Outlook 2013, but should be functionally equivalent to Outlook 2010.

  1. Open the Control Panel and select Mail. addingSecondaryProfile01.gif
  2. In the Mail control panel, select Show Profiles… addingSecondaryProfile02.gif
  3. This will bring up a list of profiles currently available on the computer. Select Add… to create a new profile. addingSecondaryProfile03.gif
  4. Name your new profile and click OK. addingSecondaryProfile04.gif
  5. Follow the newly opened wizard to assign your new profile an email account. If the email account you wish you use is not the one automatically generated in the field, change it accordingly.
  6. Once the wizard is completed, the new profile will be added to the list.
  7. Select Prompt for a profile to be used from the menu underneath the profile list. This will allow you to choose a specific profile upon loading Outlook. Click OK to close the window. addingSecondaryProfile05.gif
  8. Load Outlook. It will now ask you for a profile to use. Select your newly created account and wait for Outlook to finish loading. addingSecondaryProfile06.gif
  9. The Outlook main window will now display the information associated with the secondary profile.
