Memory Quota

Due to growing demand for our Econ Cluster, we have seen several cases in which one single user used all the memory (RAM) of one machine making. This can make it non-accessible to others and may cause the OS to randomly kill processes. To avoid this from happening again, we have imposed a quota (per user) on each machine. The details vary by machines so see the Hardware Configuration for more details. If you need a considerable amount of memory use machines econ9-14. If for some reason you cannot cut your memory demand below the max allowed, please contact econcluster@umd.edu with specific information on why you need memory above the limit, how much is enough for you, and for how long this accommodation is needed. We will do our best to address your need.

If you would like to decrease your memory usage for Stata's Mata environment you can execute

mata: mata set matafavor space

We welcome any comment on this new policy and prepare to adjust it according to user demand.

To see your memory limit, you can type:

ulimit -a
