This wiki article explains how to set up an automated “away” message that will respond to any emails received while you are not in the office. TOC

Using Outlook
  1. Click the 'File' button located at the top of Outlook's main window. This will bring up a menu.
  2. Select 'Automatic Replies (Out of Office)'. This will bring up a new window.
  3. From the 'Automatic Replies' window, you can customize your various automatic responses:
  4. The top section of the window turns the automatic reply service on and off, and can specify specific time ranges where it will be active.
  5. The bottom section allows you to customize your messages depending on their origin ('Inside My Organization' is any @econ.umd.edu address, while 'Outside My Organization' is any other email address).
  6. Once you have customized your automatic reply, select 'OK' from the window. Your automatic reply has been set up.
  7. To turn off the service, go back to your 'File' menu. Underneath the 'Automatic Replies (Out of Office)' button, select 'Turn Off'. This will disable the service.
Using OWA (Webmail)
  1. Log into '[https://econ.umd.edu/owa OWA (Webmail)]'
  2. Once in the main window, locate the 'Options' button at the top-right, and select it. This will bring up a drop-down menu.
  3. Select 'Set Automatic Replies…' from the drop-down menu. This will take you to the options page.
  4. From the Automatic Replies page, you can customize your various automatic responses:
